Spring 2010

13 Week Study (continuing)

For more than 15 years, God has used Experiencing God in His work, showing believers how to know Him intimately while encouraging them to step out in faith and join Him in His work—with miraculous results. Revised Member Book has been updated with new illustration and testimonial content that demonstrates how this study contributed to some truly miraculous results.

God has more work to do—will you join Him?

6 Week Study

Each sunrise seems to bring fresh reasons for fear.

They're talking layoffs at work, slowdowns in the economy, flare-ups in the Middle East, turnovers at headquarters, downturns in the housing market, upswings in global warming. The plague of our day, terrorism, begins with the word terror. Fear, it seems, has taken up a hundred-year lease on the building next door and set up shop. Oversized and rude, fear herds us into a prison and slams the doors. Wouldn't it be great to walk out?

Imagine your life, wholly untouched by angst. What if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats? If you could hover a fear magnet over your heart and extract every last shaving of dread, insecurity, and doubt, what would remain? Envision a day, just one day, when you could trust more and fear less.

Can you imagine your life without fear?

7 Week Study

When was the last time you participated in a small group study on heaven? With so many questions about heaven and the afterlife, this is a topic that is sure to create much discussion from your adult ministry.

Pastor, and host, Don Piper shares his experiences that prompted him to study what the Bible says about heaven, how to get there, what it’s like, and how embracing heaven changes everything while we are still on earth.

Don’s testimony of the power of prayer and God’s gracious intercession on his behalf is a wonderful encouragement for all of us.

With all the troubles that come with life on this earth – economic worries, medical crises, terrorist threats, natural disasters, and related grief – we are reminded this earth is not our home!

The 90 Minutes in Heaven Bible study provides a deeper understanding of heaven as it addresses:

Week #1 Heaven in the Next Instant?
The Study of the Brevity of Life

Week #2 Does God Still Work in Miraculous Ways?
The Study of God’s Continuing Work Among Us

Week #3 Who Will We See in Heaven?
The Study of Our Heavenly Reunion

Week #4 What Is Heaven Like?
The Study of Heaven & the Life Hereafter

Week #5 Are Angels Real?
The Study of Angels and Their Place in God’s Order

Week #6 Does Heaven Change Anything Now?
The Study of How Turmoil & Pain Prepare Us for Heaven

Week #7 Are You Longing for Heaven?
The Study of Our Purpose Here on Earth

Don’s experience gives him unique insight into eternity and an intense desire to tell others about Christ. His difficult recovery allows him to identify with the heartbroken and those suffering from blinding pain, ministering to them with the understanding of someone who’s been there. His goal is to help “bitter people become better, to turn disappointments into divine appointments” and help everyone he encounters to find “a new normal” in light of the promise of heaven. This is his life’s work.

What do you say to a friend when...

His child is killed in an accident?

She confides that her husband has filed for divorce?

He becomes depressed after losing his wife of 30 years?

She is diagnosed with cancer?

Often we don't say anything because we don't know what to say. Or even worse, we say or do the wrong thing. In Helping Those Who Hurt, H. Norman Wright offers practical ways to help friends when they go through a crisis or suffer trauma. You'll learn when to listen rather than speak and know the words that comfort, not hurt. You will learn how to pray, when to share Scripture, what to say in a note, and other compassionate ways to reach out.

Norm addresses this theme as a therapist with many years of counseling experience, but just as importantly, he speaks as a father whose son died at a young age. He knows the impact for good that caring friends have as they help someone going through trauma or grief.

Ruth's journey of unbearable loss, redeeming love, and divine legacy comes alive in Kelly Minter's Ruth: Loss, Love & Legacy—the second study in the Living Room Series. This 6-week Bible study delves into the virtuous character of Ruth, her unique relationship with her mother-in-law Naomi, and her blossoming love with Boaz. If you've ever felt devastated, struggled as a stranger, longed to be loved, or wept along the way, you'll find a loyal sister in Ruth.

Pregnancy Center Ministry

More Info

The Center for Pregnancy is a non-profit ministry supported by local churches and individuals.  It is located in Friendswood, Texas and serves the entire Bay Area.  The Center provides an environment of acceptance and warmth with the goal of making an unplanned pregnancy in a woman's life as easy as possible to face.

Since the Supreme Court decision of Roe v. Wade in 1973, which legalized abortion on demand, almost 40 million babies have lost their lives through abortion in our country.  The Center for Pregnancy believes in the worth and dignity of every individual, including the unborn child.  Studies have proven that by eight weeks of age, an infant , at little more than an inch long, has all major organs in place and working.  Medical studies have well documented the fact that life begins at conception.

Discovery of an unexpected pregnancy can be a time when a woman may feel a variety of emotions, ranging from fear and panic to worried and overwhelmed.  Abortion is the solution offered by many for women experiencing a crisis pregnancy.  Research reveals, however, that women often suffer physical and /or psychological damage that can be linked to their abortion.  Often women who find themselves in a crisis preganancy feel there is no other solution to their problem.  They believe they have no other alternative to help provide for them or their unborn children.  More than 90% of the women who have had abortions say they would not have done so if they had been better informed about child development in the womb and about abortion procedures.

The Center for Pregnancy offers the alternatives and the help needed so that women may choose life for their babies and themselves.

Here's how Shadycrest Baptist Church members can help:

  • Support the collection of baby bottles from Mother's Day to Father's Day.
  • Attend and support the Women's Ministry Baby Shower for the Crisis Center during our September Sweet Monday event
